Dr Appointment

So we had our monthly Doc appointment yesterday, and all is well with the baby! Her heartbeat is in the 130s and she is moving up a storm! I had to do the Gestational Diabetes test yesterday, which required me to drink some orange sugar water drink, which didn't taste that bad, but made my tummy upset for the rest of the night. I should get the results of that in the next day or two. I also have to get my rhogam shot on Monday...BOOOO...I hear it is a pretty big needle, and I am not looking forward to that at all.

The doc said I am measuring a week ahead in terms of where my uterus is sitting, so that is awesome, the sooner in August, the better!

I didn't see my OB this time, I saw a different doc who I have seen before in the past, and she said that I have gained a healthy amount of weight and that I can try to maintain if I want, or I can keep gaining...either way she is not worried. The funny thing is, I don't even feel like I eat that much or that unhealthy, especially compared to the beginning of the pregnancy when I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted... the weight just keeps coming on! I no longer eat fried food, and only occasionally have dessert, like once a week or so.... The funny thing is, I really don't even care that much! I always thought I would struggle with the weight gain, knowing my past, but I just avoid looking at certain parts in the mirror, ha, and I keep telling myself, it is what my body needs to do and I can lose it afterwards with the awesome jogging stroller my California family got me! All in all, the baby is doing great, and that is all I care about!

OK, so movement wise, things have started to get crazy!! Yesterday at work, I was just watching my belly roll around, and I put my hand where here head is and all the sudden, I feel a huge turning roll sensation, like if you sit on one of those massage chairs that have the roller balls that move up and down your back, just in my belly! I have felt that before, but never on this scale! I swear she must have done a complete 360 degree turn! I was just shocked! And then she started stretching and my belly had parts poking out like a 5 point star! It is so crazy! It is almost on the verge of being weird and alienlike, but I still love it!
She is also more fun to "play" with now, as I call it. I can poke an area, and she pokes back! or nudges me away. It is so much fun! Who would have thought you could spend so much time just staring and poking at your own skin?!

27 weeks!

We are in the third and FINAL trimester!! Wohoo!!! 13 weeks left to go, and the end can not come soon enough!! We have our monthly Doctors appointment tomorrow and then an ultrasound on Monday!! So exciting!

Here is what is going on with Isabella this week:

How your baby's growing:

By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

I will be getting tested for Gestational Diabetes tomorrow, Wednesday, as well as my blood tested for possible iron deficiency, as well as to see if my body has started producing blood anti-bodies in case the baby has a blood type that is positive. Here is more info on that:

If your early blood workup showed that you are Rh negative (which it did!), you'll need to get a shot of RhoGAM, or Rh immunoglobulin, this week (in the butt!!!). The shot prevents potential complications in a future baby you may carry if that baby is Rh positive. Your Rh status doesn't matter when it comes to this baby, but you'll want to get the shot in case you're planning on having more bambinos. If your baby is born with Rh-positive blood (because Papa chipped in an Rh-positive gene), you'll be given another dose of RhoGAM after you deliver to make sure everything will be good to go for any future pregnancies. If your glucose screening test came back positive, your doc will probably want to give you a glucose tolerance test some time soon. The test—for gestational diabetes—involves some dietary changes in the days leading up to it (more carbs!) and a longer visit to the doc on the day of the test (it's a three-hour test instead of the one-hour one you took the first time). And it's another chance to load up on that yummy glucose cocktail—shaken, not stirred! If you do end up testing positive for gestational diabetes, your doctor will probably put you on a super-healthy diet for the remainder of your pregnancy. As the Big Day nears, your baby is getting ready to go towards the light at the end of the tunnel (the tunnel being the birth canal, the light being the one the doctor is shining directly into it so she can see what the heck she's doing). Other highlights this week:Your baby's eyes are partially open now and can blink. Truly superior babies can actually wink. (OK, there is no way to prove that, but it's fun to imagine, no?) Your baby can also now become a shiny, happy person as she has begun having rapid eye movement (Get it? REM? Shiny, happy person?? We'll be here all week.)Her eyes have color now, too. It may not be the color she ultimately ends up with, especially if they're light gray or blue. The eyes typically don't settle on a final hue until nine months after baby is born. Your babe is downright chubby compared to a few weeks ago. She is about 15 inches long, about the length of an amusement park cinnamon-sugar-coated churro (yum!), and weighs 2 to 3 pounds.

The retina at the back of your baby's eyes is beginning to develop. Those beautiful baby eyes can open now, and the baby will notice and may turn his or her head if you shine a flashlight against your belly. At 27 weeks, your baby's length will have tripled or quadrupled from the 14 week mark.

Sad side effect of pregnancy

It was supposed to be in the upper 30s yesterday morning (FROST ADVISORY!), so I decided to wear socks and shoes for the first time in a while; flip flops have become my favorite things. It was a normal day activity wise, nothing out of the usual. Skip ahead to 10:30pm, bedtime, and I take my socks off, and I look at my ankles and HOLY COW, was I suprised! Check this out!:

Sexy, right?? haha! Talk about swelling! I barely had any ankle bone left and my toes were the size of my fingers! I officially have cankles at the end of the day... My socks have never left indentations before! No more socks for me! They say drinking more water helps curb swelling, the thing is, I already drink over the daily recommended amount... I can't wait to see how awesome my legs look this summer!

26 Weeks, 14 left!

We are getting closer and closer! Still so much to do!

We have yet to get the baby's room started. The walls are bright white, there are just piles of clothes needing to be washed and boxes of more clothes scattered throughout her room, as well as tons of fabric from my sewing escapades littering the new carpet...hopefully she doesn't come early, because she won't have a place to stay, ha! We still have a good three months left thankfully!

Here is what is going on in my belly this week:

How your baby's growing:

This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) or a liter of soda or a pot roast, and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.

Her feet are 2 inches (5cm) long. Hands are very active.
The baby's eyes begin to open around this time. The fetus makes breathing movements, but there is no air in the lungs yet. Hands are active and muscle coordination is such that they can get a thumb into the mouth. Thumb sucking calms the baby and strengthens the cheek and jaw muscles. The fetal brain scan will show response to touch. Touching and playing with the baby is possible now, as they may respond to your touch through your belly wall. Brain growth continues with brain wave activity for the visual and auditory systems starting to develop. Baby is probably very active in the womb, as the most active weeks are typically between weeks 24 and 28. If your back is feeling the strain of your growing belly, try doing some pelvic rocks to relax it. You may be experiencing shortness of breath as the uterus is very close to the rib cage at this stage. Some moms are not able to fully expand their rib cages; however, this does not negatively affect the baby in any way. This week marks the end of month six, which is the last month of the second trimester. Next week begins the third (and final) trimester!!!!

If she were born today she would have an 85 percent chance of surviving as her lungs are capable of breathing air (with medical assistance, of course). Other exciting developments: Baby's done a lot of growing over the past few months. Her length has more than doubled in the past 15 weeks! And that's not the only thing growing—baby's brain tissue and neurons are all developing at a rapid pace. Her brain waves are now firing away just like those of a newborn baby.

Another landmark crossed!

We have officially entered the point of double digits!!! 99 days til Isabella arrives!!! That's all!
